Interesting event.....

"TK" <terry.92...@gmail.com>, Mon, 18 May 2009 15:43:44 -0700:

An Interesting Event in Victoria , Texas

Victoria, Texas (pop. 55,000) is a town about 80 miles west of Houston ..

Local Hispanic leaders there, in opposition to pending Immigration
Legislation, boycotted all Caucasian owned  businesses in the Victoria area
this past weekend as a demonstration of their economic impact on the
community. The boycott was declared a success by the Hispanic community,
noting that revenue in Caucasian owned businesses was down by 19%.

Business owners declared the boycott a success as well, pointing out that
shoplifting was reduced by 77%, money orders sent out of the country were
down by 97%, and the cost of daily clean-up and trash collection was down by
84%. Shoppers reported that they could actually hear English being spoken
throughout the community for the first time in recent memory, and customers
actually paid for purchases with real money, not government debit cards.

Snopes is very liberal, and hardly a source I would cite, but I think the
purpose of these, such as this one, is more commentary than actuality,
anyway, Doctor.

Terry,

Even if Snopes is liberal, we need a SOURCE for items like this. And
how could they measure shoplifting so precisely?

It really sounds like a made-up, tit-for-tat response.

And it's foolish, because all campaigns to "buy from people who look
like us" have failed and will continue to fail. If the Hispanic-owned
businesses had been provided better or cheaper products and services,
then Hispanics (like everyone else) would ALREADY be shopping there.
Here in New York, the most successful businesses in Harlem are either
national chains (like Verizon) or businesses run by non-blacks such as
Chinese, Koreans or Hispanics. I have yet to see a successful black-
run or black-owned corner deli in Harlem (although I admit I haven't
taken a survey).

If someone can prove it's discrimination, I'll change my mind. But
from what I've seen, the successful businesses are run by people who:
1. Work hard
2. Are courteous to their customers
3. Provide the goods and services their customers ask for

The unsuccessful businesses are run (or run into the ground) by lazy,
rude people who supply what THEY think people need.
