Proposed unblocks

Geoffrey Plourde <geo.p...@yahoo.com>, Sun, 20 May 2007 00:57:44 -0700 (PDT):

I have been reviewing several of the blocks made recently to end the attack on Conservapedia by a group of liberal terrorists. I feel that in the haste to clean up, users not engaged in vandalism were blocked.

As follows, the users are;

1. Leonardi Pelo, editing as Leopeo

2. Todd Larason, editing as Jtl

3. John Lindon, editing as Jlindon

No evidence has been presented that they engaged in vandalism, therefore they should be immediately reinstated.

That is totally false crap, Geo.

Please do not post this kind of stuff here again.

Terry has pointed out evidence that i overlooked. I am therefore withdrawing this matter and advise that the blocks remain in place.

All of them have had edits reversed, boasted of, and planned on the
pages of Rational, disruptions, plans to get into arguments,
disinformation.  They were not all blocked for being "vandals" only,
but for general disruption, and planning things, on their wiki, that
we actually saw happen on CP, later!

JLindon, you actually helped look into....the guy with like 30 IP's
posting to CP.....some proxies from an island off the coast of Africa,
others from East Europe.......he explained that away originally in an
email to Andy...saying , without being asked about it, he was posting
from work.  So he needed to use those proxies why?

Jtl, Todd Larson, was among the nastier planners on Rational, and on
IRC....and was always in the thick of disruptions, and endless
arguments, a good assistant to Colin and Sid....and a close friend of
Icewedge as well, we read on their wiki.

As for Leopeo....you have been the one calling my attention to his
posts on Sid's blog.  Reading them, it appears he is far from some
innocent waif, taken in my the cabal only to have a place to dissent.

If they have been contacting you, it troubles me you didn't post about
it here.  It is our policy that all blocked users be referred to the
blocking Sysops and/or Andy.  Which means if you have been in contact
with them, you do not trust the people who blocked them, and believe
they were removed for no reason whatsoever, other than me or Karajou
didn't like them.  That makes me very sad.

I have full confidence in other Sysops. i felt that I should not waste their time, which i have done anyway. I thank you for informing me of the facts in this matter.

Geo and I chatted for a while on IM..... seems they have been doing a
number on him, and he was made to feel bad for them, and he was only
trying to do what was right,  according to the info they gave him.
Couple of those guys had fooled me more than once, so I understand how
they work, and how bad Geo must have felt.

Ed Poor <uncle_ed_p...@yahoo.com>, Sun, 20 May 2007 04:09:38 -0700 (PDT):

Geoffrey, I agree with you on the three unblocks, particularly as I guess Jtl here is the same as Jtl on Wikipedia, who is not a vandal but just someone with liberal ideas.

As always, the problem is how to work "with" liberals to build an essentially conservative encyclopedia. The liberals who desperately want to "be heard" can do so, if they are willing to follow our rules.

The hardest rule to follow is to distinguish between FACT and OPINION. Everyone, including me, tends to think that their opinions are right. So it's very hard for them to back up and admit/concede that their "knowledge" is only their "viewpoint". It's psychologically jarring.

I've been doing this for 6 years already, and I still find it jarring!

Well, Terry, that's why I should read ahead before I reply! I'm far too naive for this business, which is why I defer to you in matters of blocking. I guess you learned about this sort of thing at MySpace.

I mustn't be so eager to bring back the lost lamb that I fail to perceive the wolf inside its clothing, eh?
