Obama's Pick for Commerce May Not Aid Democrats
President is poised to pick Republican Senator Judd Gregg as his
commerce secretary, but New Hampshire's governor will likely fill the
vacancy with another Republican.

After I saw the news headline insinuating that Gregg may be the next
Judas or Benedict Arnold, I thought this article provided a different
perspective.

I am sure Andy will attest to this, usually such moves are done with lots of
consultation, and Obama's people and the GOP leadership, would ascertain
that would be the case before making the offer public.  By that I mean, they
knew in advance that the Governor would appoint another Republican.  Given
it is New Hampshire, little difference between a Republican and Democrat,
however.

I wouldn't rely on FoxNews, which is not as conservative as it
pretends, and any promise by a governor to appoint a Republican to
fill a vacancy would be unenforceable.  And even if he did, what kind
of Republican would it be???

When someone campaigns for Senate, then he is implicitly promising to
serve his term if he wins.  Judd Gregg shouldn't be breaking his
promise.
