social bookmarking tags for our most popular articles to get them to rank higher at the search engines - Can the wiki software do it?

conservative777 <conservaped...@gmail.com>, Mon, 16 Mar 2009 20:16:15 -0700 (PDT):

I think Conservapedia should have social bookmarking tags near the
bottom for our most popular articles to get them to rank higher at the
search engines.  Ideally right above the footnotes section. Can our
wiki software do it?  Often getting a webpage ranked high for the
search engine does not involve one knockout punch but a little bit of
a bunch of elements so I think social bookmarking could play an
important part of getting our key articles to rank high but they will
not be the knockout punch.  There is a big difference between the web
traffic of the Google top 5 ranked websites for a particular search
and the rest of the pack.  So again, I think we need to compete using
a variety of methods because often horses who win races do so "by a
nose".

Here are some resources on social bookmarking:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x66lV7GOcNU

http://net.educause.edu/ir/library/pdf/ELI7001.pdf

Here is a list of the most common social bookmarking websites but I do
not know which ones are the most popular: http://www.socialmarker.com/
I don't think we should list all those tags at the bottom of our most
popular articles.  Below I offer a suggestion on what social
bookmarking tags to use.

This website was designed by a professional who knows how to rank high
at the search engines so I am guessing his choice of tags is still
relevant: http://www.allaboutworldview.org/biblical-inspiration.htm
However, I am not sure how old that webpage is and its choice of tags
could be somewhat obsolete.

Good idea, I refer to this in my next post.

"TK" <terry.92...@gmail.com>, Mon, 16 Mar 2009 20:29:00 -0700:

I agree.  Typically these are placed at the very bottom of the page, the
ones for BuzzUp, Digg, and the like?

Excellent idea, Conservative!

Can the wiki software do the social media tags?  Who are Conservapedia
would know this? If nobody would know this could we contact the vendor
for our wiki software?

"TK" <terry.92...@gmail.com>, Mon, 16 Mar 2009 22:17:13 -0700:

The webmaster is a member here, and he would certainly know, Conservative,
and if not, he would know where to find that out.

TK,

What is the webmaster's username here and can someone get him to post
here regarding this matter?

If memory serves, his conservapedia username is CPWebmaster ‎

Sincerely,

Conservative

"TK" <terry.92...@gmail.com>, Tue, 17 Mar 2009 13:38:53 -0700:

Conservative,

The Webmaster's username here would be:   PhilipB (CPWebmaster)

Sorry for the delay, I was out of time for a few days.

Conservative,

Social bookmarks are easily integrated with MediaWiki. Just to clarify, you
only want the links inserted on popular pages, not every mainspace page? I
could easily place them on every page if that would be better.

Thanks,

Phil

Could you share exactly how this is done? I might want to do the same
thing for CreationWiki.

Either way, there's something that everyone should know. Most of the
social networks are dominated today by liberals. Before anyone submits
any content of CP to Digg.com, Twitter.com, or whatever, someone needs
to read carefully the Terms of Service of the various services. Certain
groups of users of those services will probably report any submission
from Conservapedia as an abusive or terms-violative submission and seek
to get the submitters banned. Failing that, they will "bury" those
submissions as fast as they can see them. I've seen it happen on
Digg.com many times.

Thankfully, I have some contacts to whom I might be able to go for help.
I hesitate to say any more than that, for security reasons. (And I must
emphasize the extreme sensitivity of what I have just said, and that it
NOT LEAVE THIS GROUP.)

Dear Philip Beach,

Please put them on every page via some macro command which I assume
you would use.  I very much appreciate
your help.

I think I might be flooding the evolution article with visitors soon
via two allies I have.  And I think the deluge of visitors could be
very enormous.  It looks very promising,

The flood of visitors would be told about social bookmarks before they
visited the Conservapedia article.

Sincerely,

Conservative

Dear Philip,

By the way, when do you think you might get around to doing the social
bookmarking tag implementation
at Conservapedia?

"Philip Beach III" <philipbe...@verizon.net>, Thu, 19 Mar 2009 23:48:04 -0400:

Conservative,

As soon as Andy confirms I will install the bookmark buttons and, after I
get it working okay, I'll send you instructions for CreationWiki.

Thanks for suggesting this,

Phil

I will contact Andy regarding the buttons.

He already approved it. Please just wait a few more days so that it can be
fully tested before implementation. These kind of site-wide changes need to
be bulletproof.

Thanks for your patience,

Phil

Dear PhilipB,

I talked to Andy and he said social bookmarking tags were ok for
evolution, atheism, and homosexuality articles.  If he
told you he was going site wide so much the better.  I look forward to
the implementation.

"Philip Beach III" <philipbe...@verizon.net>, Sun, 22 Mar 2009 00:14:41 -0400:

Conservative,

Thanks for confirming with Andy. At first this will be on a few select
articles but after a short period we can perform a total implementation if
it's successful.

Very close now to finishing the code.

Thanks again,

Phil
